About Our School
Serving children with special needs since 1988
Our History
Allamano Special School was established in March 1988 as a specialized division within Wamagana Primary School. Later, in 1996, it transitioned into its own separate and independent institution. The school provides education and support for children with various mental disabilities, including cerebral palsy, autism, and Down syndrome.
Our school was awarded the prestigious Pro Ecclesia Et Pontifice gold Medallion by Pope John Paul II in 1999, recognizing its exceptional service to children with special needs in Kenya.
In 1990, we began participating in Sports for the Mentally Handicapped (then known as "Special Olympics"), and in 1991, we proudly sent two children to represent Kenya at the Special Olympics in Minnesota, USA.
Historically, the school was supported by the Consolata Missionaries, with significant contributions from Rev. Fr. Antonio Giannelli IMC. The "Daughters of Saint Anne" served at the school from 1996, later succeeded by the "Sisters of Mary Immaculate" in 1999, under the guidance of Archbishop Nicodemus Kirima.
